Our Project CategoryLocal Attractions (Natural and Man Made)

Our CommunityOur community is New Taipei City, and it's the northernmost city on the island of Taiwan. It covers the entire city of Taipei with a total area of more than 2,000 square kilometers. The coastline is more than 120 kilometers long and has a vast territory. The northeast, north and northwest of New Taipei City are facing the seas. Along the northeast coast, there are rich seascape wonders and coastal scenery. During the summer, there are full of people at the sea, and the whole stretch of mountains and seas connect the most popular golden tourist route of people from Taipei.

Our Project SummaryOn the coast road of New Taipei City, is there a special

house? It is called “Do Good House.” Ten years ago, the retired math teacher Steven Ho built it with soil. This house does not have a foundation, no air conditioning, but it can resist typhoons reaching the highest level on the wind scale at level 17 and earthquakes of magnitude 8.0. In 2011, Ho, Chun-Hsien (Steven Ho) participated in the first Taiwan Green Construction Competition. He did not expect to defeat the Japanese architect Ito Toyo; however, He won the first place. Our Internet AccessMost of the computer tech comes from school T1 and PC

ADSL at homes, and we finished most of the uploading at school. We achieved parts of the schedules during after school activity hours. Luckily, the ADSL speed is also quick at our teacher’s place, so it saved a lot of time and finished more efficiently. Moreover, we have read the collected date again and

again. While analyzing our own useful information, we also uploaded via FTP for a backup, and also easier to share with our teammates, helping each other, also knowing each rate of progress.

Our skill and ability of making web page were not good enough, so we were worried that we might not finish on time. We firstly set the web page on- Google Site, then finished the

rest via school NAS system.

Our teacher asked a senior schoolmate who’s really good at setting CSS border to help us.- And we did learn a lot from him.


Agenda

We could only collect the data during weekends, so it

was pretty hard to raise up the efficiency.

We should have taken notes and recorded the information we would like to know before interviewing, and also shorten the

time.


Team

Some teammates did not really pay attention fully, so some data were late or problems

occurred during integration.

Teachers had to remind us of the right attitude repeatedly.


Data

We put all the collected data

on TEAM-DRIVER first, edited together, then finished the raw web page vis Google Page.

It was a great challenge to collect the data personally and think about how to classify and present. But we also learn a lot from the

experience.


Interview

Teacher Ho is a busy person. And it was rainy and gusty during winter. The worst was that our drone had been blown

into the sea.

With our never-stopped spirits, we marched to the final goal.


Experience

Though we had some simulate interviews, but still not enough. The real situations were hectic.

We should have arranged our own works for the interviews in advance.

Reflection: We have learnt a lot through this project such as teamwork, interview techniques, editing, making web pages. There were also great tasks for us to

over come while collecting and analyzing data along the whole process. Though it was tough, but we never gave up. And achieved the goal eventually.

Fortunately , we had some warm-hearted people like teachers and senior schoolmates. Our teachers asked us to practice the skills of making web pages, and we did find out that it was not really hard to make them. There were ups and downs during this project, but we know those are all nourishing experience for our growth. And also big appreciation to our teachers to show us so much.

    How did this project fit into the goal of the contest

We only had minimum ideas about Green Construction before handing on The Smart Do Good House project. But we tried our best learning spirits to plan, find, and collect the data, and headed out to face the tasks after arming ourselves with all the information we need. We used Google Team, a platform which helps us save and edit all the data during school computer class, and made the web page via Google Site.

There were typesetting and editing skills needed. We needed to understand and conquer the knowledge and ideas like art, Chinese, science, geography, and math, which have been taught by our teachers. So we applied the intelligence, plus more information from different sources to make us stronger. We have

faced difficulties but we never gave up. We have shown the best team spirit, and also learnt that “No pay, no gain” during the whole journey.

    In what ways did your students act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Cyber Fair Project both on-line and in person?

It was our Teacher Lin, Ying-Pin, also the main instructor of this project, got connected with a retired headmaster of New Taipei City and a director from ChihLee University of Technology to begin the interview of The Smart Do Good House.

Teacher Steven Ho dedicates himself to Green Construction, Natural Construction,

and Natural Farming. His schedules are fully booked, and it is impossible to arrange an appointment with him if you do not have enough ideas or plan. We told him that we are going to participate in an International CyberFair , so we would like to know more details about his Do Good House. He said “Yes” eventually, and as a teacher, he asked us to think about Natural Construction and the problems of condensation first before interviewing him. And we did ponder deeply about all the issues and difficulties which we might face. By doing this project, Do Good House manifests the eco-friendliness to the environment. We learn to treat our living environment with truthfulness, goodness, and beauty.

   What has been or will be the impact of your project on your community?

     Through this project, we figured out how abundant and plentiful the culture, backgrounds, and scenery among our adorable hometown, New Taipei City are. And we definitely need more time to taste those favors a lot more.

According to the mistakes and lessons we have faced and learnt, we know that we

cannot repeat them anymore. We must arrange and set all the agenda into different small groups and collect the data. We also learn the essence of team spirit. With Team spirit, we dedicate our best to our own responsibilities and make the whole project into perfection. And we have also grown with much more confidence and maturity in different aspects. As a living human being, we must keep the faith on everything.

  Description of Respect the Intellectual Property of the project.

    The contend and the web page of The Smart Do Good House are collected, written and edited by our teammates. We basically wrote down what we have already known after collecting data and about to finish an article.

Examine what did we short and check the information from other websites. So we

have known better about Do Good House before interviewing, and respect it a lot more.
